The new preview version of Windows 10 focuses on PC games with game mode, Beam, game settings

This week, players on both Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One will begin to receive a load of new game features to be developed in the coming days as part of their respective Insider programs.

PC gamers probably have more reason to get excited. A game mode to customize your PC for games, a new dedicated game menu within Windows 10 settings, and Beam livestreaming gameplay will form a trifecta of improvements.

Xbox owners have already seen Microsoft deploy more general user interface improvements on the Xbox dashboard, plus a new aggressive program to segment Xbox users into four different degrees of access. With the new updates, Microsoft has updated Cortana's digital assistant with new commands and added a Screentime feature that can manage the time that children use the Xbox.

Why this matters: While this is part of the new creators update, every time Microsoft launches new features specific to the games is worth getting excited about. More specifically, these new capabilities are not necessarily designed to link the Xbox to Windows, a somewhat controversial subject for PC gamers concerned about non-modifiable PC gaming, but focus on improving individual platforms.

Game mode optimizes your PC

In the Silver Age of PC games, players modified HIMEM.SYS files and custom designed AUTORUN.EXE files to shut down everything that was not necessary to run Doom and other DOS games with the highest possible performance. The new gameplay for Windows 10 seems to have the same focus.

How much extra performance will be the new gameplay of WIdows 10? That remains to be seen.

"With gameplay, it's our goal now to take things one step further to make the gaming experience in Windows even better," Microsoft wrote in a blog post. "Our vision is that Game Mode optimizes your PC with Windows 10 to improve the overall performance of the game."

In a video, Microsoft explains that the goal is to increase the peak frame rate of your PC while playing a game, and the average frame rate as well. Eventually, the goal is to activate the game mode automatically. But it's also possible that not all games will work right away, Microsoft adds.

To enable it, you will need to activate the Windows game bar (WIN + G) and enter Settings. At this point, Microsoft says, you can opt in the current game in game mode. It looks like this setting will be live soon, every time you edit the new compilation.

A Home for Games in Windows 10 Setup

Over time, Microsoft has made the Settings a first page to adjust the controls of certain tasks, for example, to move the screen resolutions of your old home in the Control Panel. Apparently, the games will receive the same treatment.

PC gamers will need to familiarize themselves with the new Windows 10 game controls.

The Settings Gaming section uses the familiar Xbox logo. Within it, you'll find controls for the game bar, the GameDVR function, Beam transmission and more. The games section will continue to flow, said Microsoft, as it makes further adjustments. It looks like you might see specific controls for joysticks and other peripherals here in the future, for example.

Beam streaming will be launched

Microsoft and its subsidiary, Beam, have been busy discussing the improvements behind their entry into the streaming gaming space, competing with Twitch and YouTube. The new 1440p Beam streams are apparently live, and you will be able to take advantage of the game bar to start streaming Beam on the PC, with the support of Xbox One soon. According to Microsoft, the transmissions will have less than a second of delay, which means that the flags will be able to chat with their fans essentially in real time.

Microsoft expects Beam to become the new Twitch of the Xbox One and even the PC with Windows 10.

Eventually, Xbox users will be able to stream from the Guide navigation bar, with management controls and available chats as overlays (as opposed to tight windows).

Screentime: Because kids can not play Xbox all day

If you've managed the time your kids spend on the Internet with existing Windows parental control features, the new Screentime feature for Xbox One should look familiar. To prepare for the final release, you will need to set up an account with the microsoft.com/family web controls. As shown in the illustration, each child will connect and be subject to parental controls that have been established.

Kids can not argue with an Xbox about the screen boundaries, right?

The Xbox One platform will also receive some new commands, such as voice controls to play music while users play, Microsoft said.

Because the creators update is not expected for another month or two, Microsoft is not finished. The new additions to Beam, Arena mode and social improvements are as follows. What are they? We should know soon.
