It has been previously reported that Crytek had dealt with a lot of financial trouble in 2016, and which has now been confirmed as the company announced it is to close some of the studios. They'll be closing five of their international studios, located in Budapest, Sofia, Istanbul, Seoul, and Shanghai. This means that all that's left will be headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany and a studio in Kiev.
The company said that "as part of the changes, Crytek will focus on development in its studios in Frankfurt and Kiev and continues to develop and work on the award-winning IPs. CRYENGINE will remain a pillar of the overall strategy of Crytek, licensees of the company and indie developers as continuing to be served by engine updated. All other development studios will not remain with Crytek and management has put into action plans to secure jobs and ensure a smooth transition and stable future. »
Crytek co-founder and CEO, Avni Yerli, added that the decision was not an easy, while we thank also all members of the staff who will now be without a job. "These changes are part of the essential steps that we take to ensure that Crytek is a healthy and sustainable, business moving forward who can continue to attract and cultivate the best talent in our industry." The reasons were shared internally along the way. We put the focus is now entirely on the major forces that have always defined Crytek, developers of world-class, state-of-the-art technologies and innovative game development and we believe that through this difficult process will make us a more agile, viable and attractive studio primed for future success. »
Crytek is best known for the popular series of Crysis, but they were also engaged with Mohamed: son of Rome. They are currently working on Arena of Fate, Hunt: horrors of the Gilded Age and Warface.
